- ABOUT SHAREWARE AND THE USE/DISTRIBUTION OF THIS SOFTWARE
- ================================================================
-
- Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software before buying
- it. If you try a Shareware program and continue using it, you are
- expected to register. Individual programs differ on details - some
- request registration while others require it, some specify a maximum trial
- period. Along with the registration, you get anything from the simple
- right to continue using the software to an updated program with a printed
- manual.
-
- Copyright LAWS apply to both Shareware and Commercial software, and the
- copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific exceptions as
- stated below. Shareware authors are accomplished programmers, just like
- commercial authors, and the programs are of comparable quality. In both
- cases, there are good programs and bad ones! The main difference is in
- the method used in the distribution. The author specifically grants the
- right to copy and distribute the software, either to all and sundry or to
- a specific group. For example, some authors require written permission
- before a commercial disk vendor may copy their Shareware.
-
- So, Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You should
- find software that suits your needs and pocketbook,whether it's commercial
- or Shareware. The Shareware system makes fitting your needs easier,
- because you can try before you buy. And because the overhead is low,
- prices are low also. Shareware has the ultimate money-back guarantee - if
- you don't use the product, you don't pay for it.
-
- You are granted a license to try this program for a period of 21 days. If
- you continue to use this program after the trial period is over you must
- register by sending the registration form with remittance to the address
- following in this document. By registering, you will receive the latest
- version with fully functional menus and help available on which cards to
- play or discard.
-
- This program may not be sold in any form without the express written
- consent from Richard Gardner. If you distribute this program to friends or
- to a BBS, you *MUST* do so under it's given name with all files in their
- original form!
-
- Please feel free to distribute the shareware version to anybody and
- everybody. If you do distribute the shareware version, keep all files in
- their original form with the program. If you do register, however please
- keep that copy to yourself. I worked many hours on this program (as my
- wife will testify) and I believe that it is a good program and I would
- appreciate some compensation.

- ABOUT THIS PROGRAM
- =========================================
-
- This version of Euchre is based on the variety of euchre played in Indiana.
- This is not bid euchre, which is a different animal all together. The
- logic used in playing is based on years of experience playing at college.
- This program is a re-write of an unreleased version written in 1992
- entirely in QuickBasic. The old version worked, but I didn't feel the
- graphics or the overall program was worthy of distributing. In August of
- 1995, I found the graphics I was looking for from LogDog Software. This,
- combined with 3 more years of programming experience led me to re-write the
- original. The latest version is written in 95% QuickBasic with a few
- assembly routines. The graphics are 100% QuickBasic. The program was
- developed on a 486-100Mhz and tested on machines ranging from a 386-33Mhz
- to a 486-100Mhz.

- HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS:
- =============================
-
- This program requires:
- * VGA color monitor (640x480 resolution)
- * 350k of available memory
- * DOS 3.0 or Later (Will run within Windows 3.1, but have had some
- problems with mouse control.)
- * 200k of Hard Drive Space
- * Hard Drive installation recommended
- * Mouse is supported but not necessary
-
- =============================================
- REGISTERED VERSION VS. SHAREWARE VERSION:
- =============================================
-
- The Shareware version is a fully functional game. Mouse and keyboard input
- are supported. However, the top menus are not functional. All selections
- are available, but most do nothing. The Quit Game menu is functional. The
- Registered version has fully functional menus. Colors may be changed,
- options saved to a configuration file, sound turned on or off, etc.
- See EUCHRE.DOC for explanation of all menu choices. Also in the Registered
- version is Help. Either by clicking the right mouse button or hitting the
- F1 key, a suggestion will be made as to what to do. Help is available for
- Calling Trump, Going Alone, Discarding and the actual Card Playing.
